MY REVIEW
This film is about two cowboys Ennis Del Maar(Heath Ledger) and Jack Twist(Jake gyllenhaal) who are hired by Joe Aguirre(Randy Quiad) to herd his sheep on Brokeback mountain.After spending time alone at Brokeback,Ennis and Jack develop a romantic relationship.They part ways after their job is over.While Ennis marries Alma(Michelle Williams) Jake gets married to Lureen Newsome(Anne Hathaway).After 4 years they meet again and realise that they cant live without each other but haunted by a childhood memory of the torture and murder of a man suspected of homosexual behavior,Ennis refuses to abandon his family.They continue to meet secretly at Brokeback few times in a year.When Ennis's wife finds out the truth about his husband's so called 'fishing trips' things get a lot complicated.
This movie is not about two gays.It does not deal with any gay rights movement or something like that.It is a simple movie about two straight guys who fall in love with each other.The story touches your heart and the ending makes you cry.This is a really well directed movie by Ang Lee.Choosing 2 cowboys as the leads of the story and setting it against the backdrop of a mountain which according to Jack is his 'most favorite place' is great.The theme is delicate and for successful implementation required good acting.Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal are phenomenal in this movie.Everything about the two cowboys from their accents to the way they live looks so real.Michelle Williams too has a really good role though I think Anne Hathaway's role was quite short and I felt that it missed something.
The soundtrack of this movie 'The Wings' by Gustavo Santaolalla played during various parts of the film is breathtaking.It never fails to remind you the ending of the film which is simple yet perfect for the film.
Overall the film is very good and is a must watch for all romantic film lovers for being so different from any other romantic movie.

Brokeback Mountain is the third Heath Ledger movie that I have seen after 'The Dark Knight' and '10 things I hate about you'.Starting in 1992,Heath's career was cut short due to accidental overdose of prescription drugs in 2007 (even before Dark Knight released).He was just 28 at that time and I feel he is one such actor who had a lot of potential.He is one of my favourite actors for being so versatile.From playing the psychotic Joker in 'The Dark Knight' to playing a cowboy in 'Brokeback Mountain' and the high school student in '10 things I hate about you' , he had done it all that too with great panache.The link below is the Oscar acceptance speech given by his family when he won the Oscar for playing the Joker.As his mother says 'we should celebrate what he has achieved.'
ekdum mast review bro but since it is also one of my favourite movies that differ in their genre, anna hathaway's role was pretty appt and was given a proper length, she was at first an carefree girl and afterwards a responsible mother, after all the story should and must focus on Jack Twist and Ernins Del Maar.
