The movie starts with an Italian boat discovering an unconscious man in the mediterranian with two gunshot wounds on his back. This man,Jason Borne ( Matt Damon) suffers from amnesia and has only one clue of his identity which is a bank account number surgically implanted in his hip. Adding to his misery are a series of assassination attempts to his life which make this movie one of the best action spy film I have ever seen.
This movie is a fast pace film that keeps you at the edge of your seat throughout.Based on Robert Ludlum's bestselling novel of the same name, Bourne Identity truly lives up to the the fame achieved by the novel. The beautiful screenplay,the direction and the continuous action in the film make it a memorable one. Matt Damon as Jason Bourne is perfect for this role. Even before this film Matt Damon had proved his potential in films like Saving private Ryan,Good Will Hunting and Talented Mr Ripley. This movie just takes him to another level.The fast pace action action sequences in the film just shows you the amount of hard work Matt Damon has put in the film.
Although based on a novel there are some changes in the plot which frankly I didn't mind. It is said that the screenwriter Tony Gilroy wasn't allowed to read the novel by the director. Instead he wanted him write based on the outline provided by himself. One thing that I quite liked about this film was that unlike the James Bond film, this film relies on minimal use of special effects. Jason Bourne is not as flashy as James Bond,he doesnot own the high tech gadgets and he is not a womanizer. He is just a spy/assassin who is simply trying to find the truth about himself.
Bourne Identity is the first part of the Bourne trilogy.After seeing this film,I am sure you will be attracted to the next two films which I found even better than this one. A fourth movie Bourne Legacy is slated to release this year. It doesnot star Matt Damon.He has been replaced with Jeremy Renner known for movies like Hurt Locker and The Avengers. Although I was quite dissapointed with this news but the trailer does look promising.I hope it turns out good.
Watch this movie for some high pace action and if you want to watch a spy-movie with more less fuss on special effects and more stress on the mission in hand.
